DIY Home Sweet Home: How To Clean Your Faucet Without Scrubbing

I honestly don't know how I let my master bathroom sink get this disgusting. A couple months ago the handle for the hot water broke off. Since than we hardly ever used it and I kind of stopped cleaning it. I finally ~~stopped being lazy~~ got around to fixing the handle and figured I should clean the sink before we start using it again. Unfortunately the combination of soap scum, dust, and whatever else was hanging out on the faucet, had sat there for too long. Cleaning with a rag and all-purpose cleaner just wasn't going to cut it. Here is what my faucet looked like AFTER I cleaned it

In our previous home I removed some pretty nasty soap scum build-up from a tub and shower surround using vinegar so I knew it would work on the faucet too. If you've been following my blog you know that vinegar is one of my favorite cleaning products. I even use my vinegar cleaning wipes on a daily basis.

Since the faucet was pretty dirty I decided to use the vinegar at full strength without diluting it. Using a spray bottle, I started by spraying vinegar all over the faucet. Then I wrapped paper towels around the base of the faucet, the handles, and the faucet head where the soap scum was the worst. I used the spray bottle again to soak all the towels in more vinegar and then I let it sit.

Thirty minutes later I removed all the towels, and all the nasty build-up wiped right off. No scrubbing required. It really was that easy!!

Even though I knew the vinegar would remove the soap scum, I'm still amazed at the results. Look how shiny that faucet is!

If your planning on cleaning your own faucets please keep these tips in mind

Vinegar works perfect when cleaning chrome bathroom fixtures. I do not know how well it will do on fixtures that do not have a chrome finish. If you have tried vinegar on other finishes, please let others know in the comments, whether or not it worked for you.
Cleaning rags would work in place of the paper towels. Just make sure that they are thin enough to squeeze into all the nooks and crannies. Torn up, old t-shirts would be perfect.
You may need to repeat the process a couple times depending on how bad your faucet is.

I heard how well vinegar cleans surfaces but I can't stand the smell of vinegar on my hands. I do wear gloves and used Apple cider vinegar also! But just hate the smell!
